Garden Galah

Shagpile

Casuarina glauca

Page last updated: Aug 23rd, 2025

Overview

The shagpile was planted where the agapanthus used to be under the pine tree to complement the mountain devils and provide low level ground cover.

Care Instructions

Nil. The ground around it is mulched annually.

Plant History

Purchased from Blackheath nursery and planted in Autumn 2024. At the end of Winter 2025 he was looking a bit off colour (leaves were more of a dark brown).

Personal Musings

This and the Mountain Devil were planted to replace the Agapanthus that used to be in this location. I forsaw the Casuarina spreading out and flowing over the edge of the pine tree roots around him. As with many plants in the garden, I suspect he may not have enough sun for that to happen.
