Overview

A native grass that grows in moderate sized clumps up to 1m. A spiny seed core develops after a wet summer.

Care Instructions

Very hardy. Doesn’t need any particular care.

Can be heavily pruned all around to ~15cm in early Spring. Dead thatch should be removed near the end of summer.

Plant History

Came with the house. Propagates itself readily throughout the front yard.

Personal Musings

Apparently these can be propagated by digging them up and physically dividing them. The concept of this intrigues me as I obviously can’t be propagated by being cut in half. Xanthorrhoeaceae (the grass tree family it belongs to) is also a word I encourage everyone to try pronouncing at least once in their life.
