Pied Currawong
Strepera graculina
Overview
Currawongs are very common, but not any less special because of it. They don’t seem quite as smart as crows, but are much more solemn. Their calls are very distinctive and echo all around during twilight.
Young currawongs are not as graceful and make a persistent annoying quiet screech to their responsible adult.
Personal Musings
My favourite thing about currawongs is how they flap, then tuck their wings in to glide and repeat. It is very graceful and deliberate. As an aerospace engineer, they command my respect.
