Overview

The Spring of 2024 was a Cicada year. Walking through some of the surrounding bushland was almost deafening.

Cicadas are actually a superfamily of insects. There are at least two different types I have seen around Blackheath. - Green grocers (Cyclochila australasiae)

Personal Musings

It is a fun sight to see these little bugs worm their way out of the ground. You’d see some movement out of the corner of your eye and then you stop and let your eyes adjust and you realise the entire ground is wiggling.

They love to climb to weird little spots and get undressed. Their lifecycle is weird. Spending all that time as nymphs eating tree sap and then becoming big bug.
